r a 200 .005 niversity 68583. vit.bme Summary Coupled, finite-element models are applied for hillslope runoff investigations. Subsurface flow is modeled by the 2-D Richards equation extended for the saturated zone. Surface runoff is described by the linear and also by the nonlinear kinematic wave equations coupled to the subsurface model through infiltration and/or saturation excess. It is concluded that the typical nonlinearity in the runoff response is the result of not only the surface runoff process and the antecedent soil moisture condition but also of the way precipitation intensity affects the subsurface process. Namely, higher intensity rains produce surface runoff sooner through infiltration excess and bring the soil/aquifer closer to saturation in a shorter time leading to taller unit hydrographs of total runoff and to shorter time-to-peak periods, even if surface runoff is kept linear in nature. a 2007 Elsevier B.V. The Influence of Hillslope Length and Direction on Runoff and Soil LossUnder Natural Rainfall in an Arid Region

Analyzing variability of measured runoff and soil loss data under different condition of measurement system, are critical for advancing erosion science, evaluating hydrologic models, and designing erosion experiments. For this purpose, the current study aimed to evaluate how runoff and soil loss are influenced by hillslope direction and length in Sangane arid rangeland, Razavi Khorasan Provi...

Sensitivity Analysis of Meteorological Parameters in Runoff Modelling Using SWAT (Case Study: Kasillian Watershed)

Determination of river runoff is essential in design and construction of most hydraulic structures including dams. In rivers with no measurement stations, the hydraulic models can be used for data estimation.  SWAT is one of the most widely-used numerical models. In this model, input influential meteorological data as precipitation, temperature, wind speed, solar radiation and relative humidity...

The effect of model configuration on modelled hillslope–riparian interactions

The transfer of hillslope water to and through the riparian zone forms a research area of importance in hydrological investigations. Numerical modelling schemes offer a way to visualise and quantify first-order controls on catchment runoff response and mixing. We use a two-dimensional Finite Element model to assess the link between model setup decisions (e.g. zero-flux boundary definitions, soi...

Modeling patterns of nonlinearity in ecosystem responses to temperature, CO2, and precipitation changes.

It is commonly acknowledged that ecosystem responses to global climate change are nonlinear. However, patterns of the nonlinearity have not been well characterized on ecosystem carbon and water processes. We used a terrestrial ecosystem (TECO) model to examine nonlinear patterns of ecosystem responses to changes in temperature, CO2, and precipitation individually or in combination. The TECO mod...

Modeling Ghotour-Chai River’s Rainfall-Runoff process by Genetic Programming

Considering the importance of water and computing the amount of rainfall runoff resulted from precipitation in recent decades, using appropriate methods for predicting the amount of runoff from rainfall date has been really essential. Rainfall-runoff models are used to estimate runoff generated from precipitation in the catchment area. Rainfall-runoff process is totally a non-linear phenomenon....
